Caleb’s journey to Flex High Pontiac wasn’t a straight path — it was a winding road filled with challenges, phone books and a relentless drive to succeed. Caleb was born in Detroit but he spent much of his childhood bouncing between different states. Raised by his mother and traveling with family members, he never quite had a traditional school experience.
“I was everywhere, helping my grandfather deliver phone books all over the country,” Caleb recalls. “I’d go to one place, start school, then move again. It was hard to keep up.” When he returned to Detroit, he wasn’t in school and just doing odd jobs to make ends meet. His uncle suggested he try Flex High Pontiac, but he wasn’t sure if it was a good idea. “I was nervous, shaking in my boots,” he admits. “I didn’t know what to expect or if it was the right place for me.”
One of the biggest challenges Caleb had faced in previous schools was balancing work and education. Traditional high schools demanded full days, leaving little room for earning money or handling personal responsibilities. Our school’s flexibility allowed Caleb to learn while maintaining a job at Amazon. With his graduation approaching, Caleb is already thinking about his goal of becoming a truck driver. He loves traveling, seeing the country and could even visit family while working on the road.
As a student ambassador at Flex High Pontiac, Caleb is now helping other students find their path just like he did. “This school was the right choice for me,” he says. “It gave me what I needed—a way to finish school while still handling life. If you need a place that understands your situation and gives you a chance, this is it.”
